Awake the State - Highlighting Rick Scott's Harmful Budget Cuts

Engage in the public discourse regarding governor Scott's devastating budget cuts - specifically how they affect you, or members of your family. Tweet about how these irresponsible cuts harm you with #AwakeFL.

Highlighting the Affordable Care Act with Florida CHAIN

President Obama and Congressional Democrats worked long and hard to pass much-needed healthcare reform legislation in 2009. This month, we will be working with Florida CHAIN to educate students on the many benefits of the Affordable Care Act, and more specifically on what the ACA does for youth. Use the fliers (available for download) to distribute to chapter members and other students, and hold a more formal event with speakers if possible. Seek out healthcare providers or medical professors who will speak on the benefits of the ACA, and invite the press ahead of time for maximum exposure!

Black Caucus - Black History Month

blackcaucus@flcollegedems.com

Since 1976 February has been recognized as Black History Month. This month we celebrate the Black/African American heritage that represents a diverse America.

February 7th is HIV/AIDS awareness day and what we can do to help. Caucus Representative Jonathan Batson from FIU will be chairing this event. Please contact him at jbats002@fiu.edu if you have any questions or comments. More information to be posted soon.

Environmental Caucus - Cleaning up local communities

environmentalcaucus@flcollegedems.com

This month, the Environmental Caucus will be getting outside to enjoy the sunshine, and clean up our local communities! Hold a beach, lake or river clean-up at a body of water near you. This could involve a day at the beach, or even a canoe trip down a river. Remember to be safe by wearing gloves and using garbage bags to dispose of all collected trash.

Hispanic Caucus - Immigrant Discrimination in Florida

hispaniccaucus@flcollegedems.com

This month, the Hispanic Caucus is writing letters to our State Representatives and Senators about discriminatory legislation against immigrants to Florida. Let your elected officials know that passing a similar law to the Alabama immigration law will not be tolerated by the Hispanic community of Florida.

If possible, hand-delivering the letters to the offices of your State Reps and Senators would be most effective.

LGBT Caucus - The Ally Project

lgbtcaucus@flcollegedems.com

The Ally Project is a campaign to help the LGBT community by asking the allies to come
out and show their support. It is also a call to action to make a pledge to help stand up
and show active support to our LGBT family.

This is done though a photo, video, and pledge drive.
