As we look forward to an intense campaign cycle in Florida, it is crucial that Democrats statewide are well-equipped and ready to go. This is especially true with the Florida College Democrats, an active organization that is only as strong as its grassroots. To learn about the initiatives being undertaken by the FCD, as well as reasons to empower its grassroots, please consider our $20.12 for 2012 Proposal below. Donate today and make sure your voice is heard!

1. Over 50,000 Floridians were registered by FCD members, working with OFA, to vote since 2008.
2. Several hundreds of students used the FCD-sponsored Yes We Van program as transportation to the polls in 2010.
3. Florida’s Governor has been held accountable for his actions on Rick Scott Watch – an FCD social networking iniative on Facebook and Twitter.
4. Internship openings for campaigns are constantly being filled by students guided by FCD referrals.
5. The FCD brought the largest student delegation from across the country, represented by seventy-eight students and six chapters, to the 2011 CDA/DNC Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C.
6. The FCD proudly maintains the student Women’s, Hispanic, Black, LGBT, and Environmental Caucuses.
7. FCD students are continuously participating in a number of Awake the State rallies and progressive gatherings.
8. The FCD is engaging the Democratic community by hosting state legislators and fundraisers on campuses such as Florida Atlantic University.
9. The presence of the FCD spans across the state with chapters in Jacksonville, Miami, Tallahassee, Orlando, Tampa, Gainesville, Boca Raton, Daytona Beach, Ft. Myers, and Lakeland.
10. The FCD has commenced work with DECs & local Democratic Clubs.
11. The FCD hosted Florida Unity rallies at the University of South Florida and the University of Central Florida during the 2010 election cycle.
12. The current FCD president, Dominique Gelin, was named the 2010-2011 Female College Democrat of the Year by the College Democrats of America.
13. Chapters like the the College Democrats of UF and UCF, the respective CDA 2010-2011 Rising Star Chapter and the 2009-2010 Chapter of the Year, are at the heart of FCD operations.
14. Thus far the FCD has empowered the organizational capacities of numerous community colleges across Florida.
15. The FCD hosted our annual Spring Conference in April 2011 at the University of Miami with speakers Steve Schale, Mitch Cesar, and Andrew Gillum.
16. The FCD coordinates efforts at the youth level with organizations such as Florida Chain, the Florida Young Democrats, Planned Parenthood, the Democratic Women's Club of Florida, FDP Outreach, Organizing for America, Florida NOW, and many more.
17. In light of the recent voter suppression bill passed by the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature, the FCD has been hard at work to preserve and promote vote-by-mail.
18. FCD students phonebank for candidates and incumbents running for office.
19. The FCD is already preparing our work with Democratic legislators on Capitol Hill, looking forward to issue advocacy.

1. Equip college chapters with the resources necessary for success at the ballot box next November.
2. Host more Democrats in their election and re-election efforts.
3. Mobilize thousands of more students to vote across the state.
4. Facilitate and explain voting procedure to Floridians.
5. Fund travel to DNC Conferences for students who would otherwise not be able to attend.
6. Further develop networking between college chapters, local DECs, and local Democratic Clubs.
7. Purchase literature and promotional items highlighting the progress of our elected Democratic officials.
8. Develop more referral services for internship openings in campaign, legislative, and government offices.
9. Extend the progress of our Women’s, Hispanic, Black, LGBT, and Environmental Caucuses.
10. Build upon social networking and communication efforts.
11. Provide for those emerging community college chapters hoping to advance the progressive cause.
12. Permit for future College Democrats an infrastructure and bank account that will set infinitely high their operational capabilities.
